Books, and magazines, and clippings! Oh my! I did not realize the amount of bound paper that I had in my house! I am drawn to the printed word like a moth to a flame. There is just something about reading words in print that cannot be replaced by technology. I love to read!!!! What I don't love is the result of collecting all of these wonderful printed words....toppling piles of books and magazines and clipped recipes and articles stuffed in every available nook and cranny. I have gotten rid of at least 30 magazines since I started this mission. This number doesn't include the dozen or so that I have put back to offer up to my decorating friends to take if the want and the 6 or so that I haven't read yet. The good news is that I didn't buy most of them, I got them for free from the library. And the recipes...I used to keep the magazine if it had a recipe that I thought I might like to try someday, then to be more organized and reduce some of my clutter, I started clipping the recipes and articles out and throwing the rest of the magazine away. I filed them away at first, until my folders got full, then I just started sticking them where ever I could. And you know what? Once they were clipped, I never looked at them again, until I went to straighten a shelf or drawer and found them . I would look through them and think to myself , "I really would like to try some of these", then I would put them in a different spot and they would once again be forgotten. Some of these clipped recipes and articles have moved around with me since I left Odessa in 1992!
Well, tonight, I finally parted with them.....I got rid of 3 folders full of clipped recipes and articles and several books and magazines. Who knows how many scrumptious meals we will never taste? Or what vast wisdom I am missing out on? But you should see the empty space that they left behind!
Here is my list for today:
13 books (listed on bookmooch.com so they are not technically gone, but they are contained in a specific designated spot)
3 folders of clipped recipes and articles
8 recipe booklets that I printed out 6 years ago
5 old homeschooling workbooks
Until tomorrow....
